About Khodjeyli
Khodjeyli (Khojeli) is among the oldest settlements of the Aral region, with roots stretching back some 2,400 years. In medieval sources it appears as Mizdahkan — a major Khorezm trade city on branches of the Silk Road, known for fortresses, mausoleums, and pilgrimage.
Arab geographers such as al-Istakhri and al-Maqdisi described a thriving city of walls and commerce; al-Maqdisi noted Mizdahkan at the center of thousands of strongholds. Today the western hills still hold Gyaur-Kala, Mazlumkhan-Sulu, Shamun Nabi, and a living necropolis where archaeology meets sacred tradition.
